Permapave™ Permeable Pavers

Scroll down to see Permapave paver colors.
Permapave™ Permeable Pavers are natural stone pavers, which contain an underlying stone reservoir that stores surface pollution or runoff before infiltrating into the soil. Pavers have a flow through rate of up to 30 liters per second, removing 100% of gross pollutants from stormwater as it passes through the substrate. Permeable pavements do not need a dedicated stormwater collection infrastructure. Permapave™ Pavers comply with standards for masonry units, segmental pavers and flags.
Permapave™ pavers enable water to return directly to underground aquifers. As the water permeates through the soil, all remaining contaminants are filtered from the water and pure water is returned to the subterranean aquifers. Systems are designed to capture this clean water to supplement urban water resources.
Permapave™ permeable pavers are trafficable under light traffic specifications, such as car parking lots, driveways, etc. Tests show the Permapave™ homogenous mass is stronger than most composite road materials and can be easily laid.
Permapave™ Permeable Pavers, bedded in gravel and grouted with polymer concrete; are safe and non-slip for pedestrians and cyclists, even with high heel shoes. Surface co-efficient of friction exceeds non-slip standards, even when wet.

Permapave™ Lintel Filtration Grates

Permapave™ Lintel Filtration Grates filter 100% of gross pollutants from stormwater runoff, as it passes into the collection system. Gross pollutants remain on the pavement where proper disposal is easily managed. As an economical and extremely effective filtration system, outfall waterways are immediately cleaner and less contaminated. As with any filter, periodic cleaning to remove retained contaminants is necessary and can be done using the Permapave™ Cleaning Machine.
Permapave™ Facia Grates are specifically designed to allow water to flow into the sidewalk during rain events. Water feeds sidewalk trees and the flow of water to collection pits is greatly reduced. Sidewalk trees and plants take up nutrients, nitrates and phosphates.
Permapave™ Contaminant Filtration System
Contaminant filtration enables stormwater runoff to dissipate through permeable or porous substrate and filter through selected filtration media, such as natural subgrade or sand. It is returned to watercourses as 100% pure, clean water, recharging depleted ground water supplies in the process.
Large pavement areas, such as shopping malls, parking garages and roadways create the largest stormwater pollution problems. Contaminant bioretention systems utilizing Permapave™ technology can be economically installed in any area, without the loss of land.
How Permapave™ Contaminant Filtration Systems Work: Pits, dug across the water flow or at the low point of pavement areas, are filled with appropriate filtration media. Permapave™ structural grates or pavers are installed as pit covers, returning land to normal use. Stormwater runoff passes through the grates or pavers into the pit; gross pollutants are restricted to the surface and micro-pollutants are trapped within the permeable mass of the grate or paver. Remaining contaminants are trapped within the filtering media, leaving only pure water to drain from each pit, recharging depleted ground water.
Permapave™ entry grates and pavers can be cleaned when required and the contaminated filtration media can be removed and deposited at an appropriate site.

Permapave™ Stormwater Filtration Grates

Permapave™ Stormwater Filtration Grates are uniquely designed and comply with standards for metal access covers and road grates and frames.
Permapave™ Stormwater Filtration Grates filter 100% of gross pollutants and when used in conjunction with a Permapave™ curbside or footbath bioretention system filters up to 60% of Phosphorus, 70% of Heavy Metals, and 98% of Hydrocarbon from stormwater, provided that grates are cleaned prior to saturation.
Permapave™ Stormwater Filtration Grates provide a safe non-slip transition across the stormwater entry pit. Grate surface is safe for pedestrians, even with high heels, cyclists, rollerbladers, and skateboarders.
Installation of Permapave Stormwater Filtration Grates has an immediate and long-term impact on stormwater purity, resulting in an immediate reduction in contaminants at outfall.
Cleaning is easy with the vacuum extraction cleaning machines. Contaminants are captured, collected and removed to an appropriate disposal site. The frequency of cleaning varies.

Permapave™ Bioretention Systems

Permeable pavements provide the hard surface required for urban living and it allows water to flow through, returning to watercourses as it did before urbanization. Installing Permapave™ as inground bioretention systems or using it as lintel stormwater grates, provides the most advanced, efficient, and economical urban water pollution control and filtrations systems.
Permapave™ Bioretention Systems are unique and extremely effective and based on Permapave™ technology. When used as a gathering point for stormwater harvesting, Permapave™ creates a valuable new urban water resource.
How Permapave™ Bioretention Systems work: Bioretention Systems harvest stormwater and filter contaminants out, allowing stormwater to discharge to outfall watercourses as clean water. Systems are designed to divert filtered water to underground aquifers, replenish depleted ground water supplies, and eventually extract water from aquifers as an additional water source. Systems are cleaned using a mechanical vacuum to maintain permeability; contaminated media is collected and deposited at an appropriate disposal site, rather than flushed to outfall waterways.
Permapave™ Advantages:
- Economically installed in any location.
- Retrofitted to all paved areas within the urban system.
- Permapave™ Systems are installed under the ground, using Permapave™ technology to provide a hard, trafficable surface. Therefore, there is no loss of land or a requirement to alter land.

Permapave™ Curb Bioretention Systems
The Permapave™ Curb Bioretention System is an effective system for filtering stormwater runoff and is installed uphill and immediately before stormwater collection pits. Bioretention systems are easily and economically retrofitted into almost every existing curb.
How Permapave™ Curb Bioretention Systems Work: Water flow along the gutter is diverted into the Curb Bioretention System during rainfall, then is filtered and discharged either into the substrate to return to subterranean aquifers or directly into the adjoining stormwater
collection pit.
The Permapave™ Curb Bioretention pit is filled with the appropriate filtration media and covered with a trafficable Permapave™ stormwater inlet grate, allowing land to retain its normal use after installation.
Sizes: 1 meter long and 300mm wide. Systems can be designed to suit most required
capture rates.

Permapave™ Cleaning Machine

One of the benefits of using Permapave™ products is they can be easily cleaned with a mechanical vacuum. Permapave™ is an effective filter and requires contaminants to be removed periodically. Frequency of cleaning depends on the contaminant profile of the area and the frequency of rain events.
With a range of attachments suitable for all Permapave™ products, the Permapave™ cleaning machine removes 100% of contaminants from within the homogenous mass in a single pass. It is also a portable, freestanding machine, which can be loaded and unloaded quickly and easily, therefore is not dependant on any single vehicle.
The Permapave™ Cleaning Machine has the capability to work two cleaning lines simultaneously, up to 100 meters from the machine, and is equipped with a fitting that tows behind the vehicle for cleaning large areas of paving.
